CHS Broadbent and AGCRM
Case Study – Australian Grain Industry – 2020/21
Commodity Trading Solutions (CTS) was engaged by CHS Broadbent (CHSB) to assist them in replacing legacy trading and handling systems to compete efficiently and nimbly in the changing Australian Grain Industry where droughts and fierce competition make grain trading and storage asset management a challenging environment.
Main requirements for a new software platform included 24/7 uptime, world class security, cloud-based technology, user and mobile friendly programs and integration to existing systems and external providers via modern API’s. The system should provide complete support access for remote clients and suppliers and staff working remotely as well as integrations to Company website, Weighbridge and NGR platforms as well as shipping and financial systems.CHSB selected AgCRM from CTS for its modern and sleek design, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) data capture, reporting and consolidation capabilities as well as deep knowledge in grain handling, procurement and sales. Built on the Salesforce platform with its global reach and flexible development options, AgCRM has provided the perfect solution for many of CHS Broadbent’s front, middle and back office requirements with increasing functionality over time.
CTS Principal Consulting Director Mr David Taylor recognised that several existing grain trading platforms are now dated technology. “Software platforms as a service have evolved significantly in the last 10 years plus these older platforms are poorly supported, expensive and provide difficult connectivity options to suppliers and customers. There are also some new platforms promising the world but failing to deliver the basics and are as expensive as those legacy systems without the functionality”.
With significant container operations and East Coast storage options, CHSB is managing one of the largest ever Australian crops in 2020/21 with significant truck fleet and storage capabilities. Better use of data and linking to suppliers and customers via Portal technology and API’s is going to be a game-changer over the coming years and AgCRM is core to that success.
General Manager, Mr Sam Batters noted that “AgCRM has provided us with daily real-time information at our fingertips for our Handling sites as well as key CRM capabilities for our origination teams. One thing we really lacked was the co-ordination and streamlining of data capture in the organisation. AgCRM has enabled us to put discipline into our data capture and create one source of truth to look for the information to get the complete picture.”
